Islamabad, June 8, 2025 – The Power Division has strongly denied widespread rumors suggesting a ban on the installation of second electricity meters, clarifying that no such restriction exists under current regulations.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, the Power Division responded to social media claims alleging that individuals or households would no longer be allowed to install multiple meters on a single property or under a single name. The division termed these reports as “completely baseless and misleading,” warning that such misinformation is a deliberate attempt to misguide the public and create unnecessary confusion.
The spokesperson for the Power Division reaffirmed that second meter installations are still permitted, provided they meet the guidelines laid out in the NEPRA Manual 2021. According to the manual, a second electricity meter can be installed legally in separate portions of a building that have independent circuits, entrances, and kitchens.
The division emphasized that while second meters are allowed, strict regulations are in place to prevent the misuse of power and to ensure that government subsidies are not unfairly exploited. These laws, the statement added, were already in effect and remain firmly enforced to uphold transparency and accountability in power consumption.
Officials reminded citizens that any violation of laws related to power use and misrepresentation of meter requirements could lead to legal consequences. Furthermore, spreading false news or rumors through digital platforms is punishable under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), and stern action may be taken against those who intentionally share such content.
The Power Division called on the public to rely only on verified information from official sources and to cooperate with electricity distribution companies. Ensuring the accurate and fair use of power and meters is critical to maintaining equitable access and preventing misuse of national resources.
The statement concluded by urging all consumers to ignore unverified social media posts and trust only in credible updates from authorized government channels regarding power regulations and meter policies.
