Karachi, January 10, 2025 – Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced the commencement of gas production from its exploratory discovery in District Jamshoro, Sindh Province. This milestone marks a significant contribution to Pakistan’s energy sector amidst the ongoing energy crisis.
In a statement to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), PPL disclosed that the Kotri North Joint Venture has initiated gas production from the Takri-1 well. The joint venture includes United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) as the operator with a 50% working interest, PPL holding a 40% stake, and Asia Resources Oil Limited (AROL) with 10%.
The Takri-1 well is producing approximately 5.3 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas. With a Flowing Wellhead Pressure (FWHP) of about 950 pounds per square inch gauge (psig) and a 32/64-inch choke size, the gas is processed at UEPL’s Aliabad Production Facility. From there, it is supplied to Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL), bolstering the national gas distribution network.
PPL emphasized that this new supply will help address the country’s energy deficit by increasing gas availability. The production from Takri-1 will contribute to meeting Pakistan’s growing energy demands, supporting industrial operations, and ensuring a stable supply for domestic consumers.
This development also highlights PPL’s commitment to leveraging Pakistan’s natural resources to mitigate the energy crisis. By collaborating with partners such as UEPL and AROL, PPL continues to play a pivotal role in expanding the country’s energy infrastructure and tapping into unexplored hydrocarbon reserves.
