PRA intensifies crackdown on delayed tax payments in Lahore

Lahore – The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has ramped up enforcement actions against businesses involved in delayed tax payments and record manipulation, signaling a zero-tolerance approach toward tax evasion.

According to the PRA Chairperson, inspection teams carried out detailed audits at 18 business locations across upscale areas of Lahore on Thursday. The operation included thorough scrutiny of financial and transaction records of five prominent restaurants, six hotels, four fast food chains, and three cafes. Heavy fines were imposed, and official notices were issued against businesses found violating PRA regulations.

The Chairperson stressed that the implementation of the Electronic Invoicing and Monitoring System (E-IMS) in the services sector will be strictly enforced. “Timely payment of taxes directly contributes to the continuity and expansion of public welfare projects,” he noted. He also reminded business owners that collecting tax from customers but failing to deposit it into the national exchequer is a punishable offense under the law.

The PRA urged the public and businesses to ensure full compliance and transparency by verifying the taxes paid through the PRA Facilitation Application. Such measures, the Chairperson said, aim to curb malpractice, improve tax collection efficiency, and strengthen the overall fiscal system.

By intensifying crackdowns and promoting digital monitoring, the PRA aims to create a culture of accountability in Lahore’s business community, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fair taxation and public service funding.
