Lahore, March 12, 2026 – The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has decided to launch a province-wide public awareness campaign to combat tax evasion by engaging students and educational institutions across Punjab.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra on Thursday. Under the plan, the authority will begin a tax awareness drive in schools and other educational institutions starting next month.
Students to Serve as PRA Ambassadors
According to officials, students will be encouraged to act as PRA Ambassadors, helping promote tax awareness and responsible civic behavior within their communities. The campaign aims to educate young citizens about the importance of tax compliance and transparency in strengthening the provincial economy.
In the first phase, the initiative will be implemented in collaboration with the School Education Department Punjab, which will support awareness programs in schools across the province.
Digital Verification of Receipts
As part of the campaign, citizens will be able to verify receipts issued by hotels, restaurants, gyms, and aesthetic clinics through the PRA mobile application as well as a dedicated WhatsApp number.
Officials said the system will help detect and discourage the issuance of fake or unreported sales receipts, improving transparency in service sector taxation.
Rewards for Reporting Violations
Chairman Sipra said the authority will take strict enforcement action against businesses issuing fake receipts. To encourage public participation, individuals who report violations may receive up to 20 percent of the recovered fine amount as a reward.
He also noted that the Whistleblower Act will come into effect immediately after receiving approval from the Government of Punjab.
Promoting a Stronger Tax Culture
The PRA believes that introducing financial incentives and public awareness initiatives will increase reporting of tax violations and strengthen tax compliance across the province.
Officials said the broader goal of the campaign is to promote a stronger tax culture in Punjab, encouraging citizens to actively contribute to transparency, accountability, and economic development.
