Prince William and Kate Middleton appear to be taking a carefully measured approach in preparing their eldest son, Prince George, for his future royal responsibilities, according to royal experts. Observers note that 2025 marked a noticeable shift, with the young prince making more public appearances than in previous years.
Traditionally, the Prince and Princess of Wales have limited their children’s exposure to public life, aiming to provide them with as normal and private an upbringing as possible, away from constant media attention and royal pressures. However, this year, Prince George participated in several high-profile engagements, drawing significant public interest and sparking discussion about the couple’s long-term planning.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams believes these appearances are part of a deliberate strategy. Speaking to The Daily Mail, he explained that William and Catherine have always placed a strong emphasis on privacy. “From the beginning, William and Catherine have prioritised privacy,” he said, adding that George’s increasing presence at select events reflects his growing role within the royal family.
According to Fitzwilliams, Prince George’s appearances have focused on occasions of particular national importance, especially those connected to the armed forces and sport. As second in line to the British throne, he is gradually being introduced to the traditions and responsibilities associated with the monarchy.
The expert highlighted Prince George’s attendance at a tea party for World War II veterans marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day as especially significant. He also noted George’s presence at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall and a visit to a homeless charity.
“These experiences are laying the groundwork for his future,” Fitzwilliams said, emphasizing the royal family’s long-standing military tradition and the careful preparation taking place behind the scenes.
