On World Mental Health Day, Prince William released a heartfelt message emphasizing the urgent need for stronger prevention measures against suicide, one of the world’s most preventable causes of death.

The statement was published on the official Royal Foundation website, under the banner of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The Royal Foundation, led by Prince William and Kate Middleton, works to tackle some of society’s biggest challenges through research, partnerships, and measurable impact. Prince William has championed causes including mental health awareness, disrupting illegal wildlife trade, supporting emergency services, and environmental initiatives such as The Earthshot Prize. Meanwhile, Kate Middleton has focused on supporting families, early childhood development, addiction, and mental health, elevating the importance of early years through the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

For World Mental Health Day, Prince William announced the formation of the National Suicide Prevention Network, a pioneering initiative covering all four home nations — England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The network brings together four leading UK charities, each dedicated to supporting individuals at risk of suicide and providing community-based interventions.

In his statement, Prince William said, “The incredible partners who form this network reach those at risk of, or affected by, suicide with their inspirational work. I have had the privilege of meeting all of the founding partners to see firsthand their powerful community-based efforts to offer hope and support to those who need it most.”

He concluded by emphasizing the network’s critical mission, stating, “Their efforts reaffirm the urgent mission of the National Suicide Prevention Network: to build a bold, unified national response to the heartbreaking—and preventable—tragedy of suicide.”

This announcement highlights the Royal Family’s commitment to mental health, aiming to transform suicide prevention strategies across the UK and provide hope to countless individuals and families affected by this issue.
