Prince William’s park shoot interrupted by surprise dog encounter

Prince William’s recent visit to promote the importance of green spaces took an unexpected but light-hearted turn when a dog-walking local briefly stole the spotlight.

The Prince of Wales was filming a promotional video in Windlesham’s Field of Remembrance Park alongside former England football star Jill Scott to mark the centenary of the charity Fields in Trust. The organization works to protect parks, playgrounds and sports fields across the UK for future generations.

During the shoot, an unsuspecting woman walking her dog wandered onto the set. The moment quickly turned memorable when her off-leash pup ran straight toward Prince William, prompting the stunned owner to exclaim, “Oh my God!” — a reaction that was caught on camera and soon circulated online.

Prince William, a well-known animal lover, took the surprise interruption in good spirits, laughing as the dog bounded over. Scott stepped in to reassure the clearly flustered owner, calmly saying, “It’s okay, don’t worry,” while the woman hurried over to apologies.

The Prince’s relaxed response came as no surprise to those familiar with his love of dogs. He has previously brought his own cocker spaniel, Orla, along to public engagements, and appeared unfazed by the unexpected canine cameo.

Once filming resumed, William and Scott continued discussing the vital role green spaces play in communities, particularly for children’s physical activity, mental wellbeing and access to fresh air.

Scott, who now serves as president of Fields in Trust, reflected on how local parks shaped her own journey. Growing up playing football on community pitches, she credited those protected spaces with helping lay the foundation for her successful sporting career.

The unscripted moment added a touch of charm to the day, reinforcing the welcoming and everyday nature of the parks the charity aims to protect.
