Lahore, March 26, 2026 – The 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) begins today with an opening clash between defending champions Lahore Qalandars and debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The tournament is being launched without major fireworks or fanfare, in line with government austerity measures amid regional energy concerns. Despite the subdued opening, excitement remains high as teams prepare for a competitive season featuring new franchises and a revised structure.
Lahore Qalandars Aim to Defend Title
Led by skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi, Lahore Qalandars enter PSL 11 as defending champions. The team has been one of the most consistent sides in recent years, reaching the final in four of the last six editions and now aiming for another successful campaign.
They are placed in a group alongside traditional rivals Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, and Peshawar Zalmi. Each team within the group will face one another twice, while also playing cross-group matches.
New Teams Add Fresh Competition
PSL 11 marks a new era with the inclusion of Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindiz, both making their debut following franchise auctions held earlier this year. The league now features eight teams split into two groups.
The second group consists of Hyderabad Kingsmen, Multan Sultans, Islamabad United, and Rawalpindiz. Each team will play 10 matches in the league stage before advancing to the playoffs, which include a qualifier and two eliminators to determine the finalists.
Match Venues and Schedule
Out of the 44 total matches, 22 will be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and 22 at National Bank Stadium in Karachi. Night matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM PKT, while double-header day matches will start at 2:30 PM PKT.
Prize Money and Incentives Introduced
For the first time in PSL history, separate financial rewards have been introduced for franchises. The winning team will receive USD 500,000, while the runners-up will earn USD 300,000. Additionally, USD 200,000 will be awarded to the franchise demonstrating the best player development performance. The tournament-winning prize for players also stands at USD 500,000.
Records and Key Players
The league features several star performers with impressive records. Babar Azam leads the all-time run charts with 3,792 runs, followed by Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan.
On the bowling side, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Wahab Riaz, and Shadab Khan are among the leading wicket-takers in PSL history.
PSL Champions History
Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars have each won the title three times, while Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, and Karachi Kings have lifted the trophy once.
With new teams, fresh rivalries, and high stakes, PSL 11 is expected to deliver another thrilling season of Pakistan’s premier T20 cricket league.
