Lahore, February 22, 2024 – The cricketing excitement reached its peak on Thursday as Quetta Gladiators emerged victorious against Islamabad United in a nail-biting encounter in the eighth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, the Gladiators successfully restricted Islamabad United to a total of 138 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Salman Ali Agha, Alex Hales, and Faheem Ashraf played pivotal roles in Islamabad United’s innings, contributing 33, 21, and 20 runs, respectively. However, the Quetta Gladiators’ bowlers exhibited exceptional skills to keep the opposition in check. Abrar Ahmed was the standout performer with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets for just 18 runs in his four-over spell. Muhammad Wasim complemented the effort, also securing three wickets while conceding 20 runs in his quota of four overs. Akeal Hosein chipped in with two wickets, giving away 32 runs in his spell.
As the Gladiators took to the field for their chase, the target of 139 runs seemed within reach. They accomplished the task, reaching 139 with the loss of seven wickets in 18.2 overs. Jason Roy, Railee Rossow, and Sherfane Rutherford were the standout performers with the bat, scoring 37, 34 (not out), and 29 runs, respectively. Their steady contributions ensured that Quetta Gladiators maintained control throughout the innings, despite losing wickets at regular intervals.
In response to Quetta’s pursuit, Islamabad United’s bowlers fought back with determination. Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah both claimed two wickets each, applying pressure on the Gladiators. Hunain Shah also made a valuable contribution, taking one wicket to keep the contest competitive.
