PSX Closes Flat Before Long Eid Holiday Break

Karachi, March 27, 2025 – The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a subdued trading session on Thursday, marking the final trading day before the long Eid holidays. Market activity remained sluggish as investors refrained from taking aggressive positions ahead of the extended break.

The benchmark KSE-100 index of PSX recorded a marginal gain of 34 points, closing at 117,806 points compared to the previous day’s closing of 117,772 points. Despite intraday fluctuations, the overall market sentiment remained cautious as investors awaited the post-Eid trading resumption.

The PSX will remain closed from March 28, 2025, in observance of Eid, and trading activities will resume on April 3, 2025. The extended closure contributed to the limited participation, as investors preferred to stay on the sidelines until after the holidays.

According to analysts at Topline Securities Limited, the PSX experienced lackluster activity throughout the session. The index fluctuated between an intraday high of +375 points and an intraday low of -221 points before settling at 117,807 points, reflecting a marginal increase of 0.03%.

Key contributors to the positive movement in the index included United Bank Limited (UBL), Hub Power Company (HUBC), MCB Bank (MCB), Meezan Bank Limited (MEBL), and Lucky Cement (LUCK), which collectively added 55 points to the index. Conversely, System Limited (SYS), Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Mari Petroleum (MARI), and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) experienced declines, collectively dragging the index down by 29 points.

In terms of traded value, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) led the market with transactions worth Rs.11.18 million, followed by Mari Petroleum (Rs.3.04 million), Hub Power Company (Rs.3.02 million), Pakistan Petroleum (Rs.2.07 million), and Maple Leaf Cement Factory (Rs.1.49 million). The total traded volume for the day stood at 329 million shares, while the overall traded value amounted to Rs.19.76 billion.

With the Eid holidays commencing, investors are expected to return with fresh sentiments once PSX reopens after the break. Market participants will closely monitor economic indicators and global trends post-Eid to gauge the market’s direction in the upcoming sessions.
