The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has strengthened its institutional and technical capacity through a strategic collaboration with ZTE Pakistan, marking an important step toward enhancing telecom regulation in the country. A two-day Capacity Building Training on Fixed-Line and Wireless Network Technologies was successfully conducted on January 6–7, 2026, at PTA Headquarters in Islamabad.
According to the official press release, the initiative reflects PTA’s continued focus on developing advanced regulatory expertise in line with Pakistan’s rapidly evolving digital and telecommunications landscape. The training program was designed to equip PTA officials with in-depth technical knowledge of next-generation network technologies and digital services.
The inaugural session was addressed by Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chairman PTA, who emphasized that structured and continuous capacity building is a strategic priority for the authority in 2026. He highlighted that enhancing internal technical expertise is essential for improving regulatory effectiveness, ensuring service quality, and keeping pace with global telecom advancements.
Senior leadership from ZTE Pakistan actively participated in the program, including Mr. Li Guowen, Chief Executive Officer, and Mr. Rizwan Rathore, Executive Vice President. They reaffirmed ZTE’s commitment to technical knowledge sharing and long-term institutional support for Pakistan’s telecom regulator. Their participation underlined the importance of public-private collaboration in strengthening the country’s digital ecosystem.
The comprehensive training covered several critical areas of modern telecommunications. Key topics included microwave evolution for 5G, IP and optical transport networks, fixed broadband technologies, 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) evolution, core network digitalization, and emerging digital service capabilities. These sessions aimed to provide PTA officials with practical insights into advanced network architectures and future-ready technologies.
The closing ceremony was attended by Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar, Member (Compliance & Enforcement), PTA. He appreciated the active participation of attendees and acknowledged ZTE’s contribution to the program. Dr. Khokhar reiterated PTA’s strong commitment to continuous professional development through meaningful industry collaboration.
