Islamabad, September 1, 2025 — Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, HI (M), SI, is representing Pakistan at the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-25) being held in Riyadh from August 31 to September 3, 2025.
The prestigious annual event is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and gathers global regulators to discuss policies for sustainable digital growth.
During the symposium, Chairman PTA held a significant meeting with Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau. The discussions focused on strengthening PTA-ITU collaboration and identifying mutual areas of interest to accelerate innovation in digital regulation. Both sides emphasized the importance of driving a transformative shift in global digital policies to ensure inclusive and sustainable growth.
GSR-25 is being organized under the theme “Regulation for Sustainable Digital Development”. The event aims to provide a global platform where regulators, policymakers, and technology experts exchange insights on how to effectively regulate emerging technologies, bridge digital divides, and create an enabling environment for digital transformation.
Pakistan’s active participation at GSR-25 highlights the country’s growing commitment to digital inclusion, innovation, and forward-looking regulatory frameworks. By engaging with ITU and other international partners, PTA aims to bring global best practices into Pakistan’s telecom sector, ensuring robust governance and facilitating the adoption of advanced digital services.
The symposium is also expected to address critical issues such as cybersecurity, data protection, artificial intelligence (AI), and sustainable connectivity solutions. With Pakistan pushing towards digital transformation under various government-led initiatives, the PTA’s presence at the event reaffirms its role as a key player in shaping the future of telecom regulation on a global stage.
GSR is recognized as a premier platform where ITU member states’ regulators collaborate each year to share experiences, build partnerships, and develop strategies that support sustainable digital ecosystems.
