The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially denied issuing any advisory currently circulating on social media regarding mobile IMEI blocking.
The regulatory body emphasized that the viral post is misleading and urged the public to only rely on information shared through PTA’s official platforms.
In a statement, PTA clarified that it remains highly vigilant against illegal practices such as IMEI duplication and cloning. To tackle these issues, the authority has implemented strict measures, including blocking duplicate or cloned IMEIs, conducting enforcement raids in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and running public awareness campaigns to educate consumers about mobile security.
The telecom regulator further highlighted that citizens facing problems related to IMEI blocking or registration should directly lodge their complaints through PTA’s Complaint Management System (CMS). The portal provides a streamlined process for mobile users to register grievances and track their resolution efficiently.
PTA also strongly advised both the media and general public to verify all information through its official website and verified social media handles before sharing or publishing it. The authority reiterated its commitment to combating misinformation that may cause confusion among mobile subscribers.
Illegal mobile devices and IMEI fraud remain significant concerns in Pakistan’s telecom sector, affecting not only consumer security but also posing risks of data misuse.
PTA has consistently carried out awareness drives to inform mobile users about the importance of checking their device’s IMEI status before purchase. Citizens are also encouraged to use the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) to verify whether a handset is compliant and registered.
By taking continuous enforcement actions and strengthening collaborations with law enforcement agencies, PTA has reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding consumers against mobile fraud and ensuring a secure telecom environment in the country.
For authentic updates, users are urged to follow PTA’s official communication channels and disregard misleading or unauthentic messages circulating online.
