PTA Completes Broadband QoS Surveys Across 29 Cities

Pakistan Telecom Authority

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has successfully completed its Quality of Service (QoS) surveys for fixed-line broadband services across 29 major cities, including regions of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

Conducted during the fourth quarter of 2025, the surveys aimed to evaluate the performance of Broadband Service Providers (BSPs) and ensure the delivery of reliable, high-quality internet services to consumers nationwide.

According to PTA, the QoS assessments focused on several key performance indicators critical to user experience. These included local and core network availability, jitter, local and international network latency, and data throughput. The results revealed that the majority of broadband service providers complied with PTA’s prescribed standards, demonstrating satisfactory performance across most measured parameters.

However, the survey also identified performance challenges among certain BSPs, particularly during peak usage hours. PTA noted that high bandwidth utilization led to network congestion, resulting in reduced internet speeds and inconsistent service quality for end users. Such congestion-related issues significantly impacted customer experience, especially in densely populated urban areas where demand for broadband services remains high.

In addition to speed-related concerns, the authority observed elevated latency levels in both local and international network segments. These latency issues point to inefficiencies in routing mechanisms and backbone network performance, which can affect real-time applications such as video streaming, online gaming, and voice-over-IP services.

In response to these findings, PTA has directed the concerned broadband operators to implement immediate corrective measures. The authority emphasized the need for capacity upgrades, improved network optimization, and better traffic management to address congestion and latency issues. PTA also reiterated its commitment to continuous monitoring to ensure sustained improvements in service quality.

To promote transparency and consumer awareness, PTA has published the detailed QoS survey results for Q4 2025 on its official website. The data allows consumers to review and compare the performance of different broadband providers, enabling more informed service choices.

PTA stated that regular QoS surveys play a vital role in strengthening Pakistan’s digital infrastructure by holding service providers accountable and encouraging ongoing investment in network improvements. As demand for high-speed and reliable internet continues to grow, the authority remains focused on ensuring consistent service standards across all regions of the country.
