The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has successfully completed Quality of Service (QoS) surveys for fixed-line broadband services across 22 major cities of Pakistan, including Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
These surveys were conducted during the second quarter of 2025 to evaluate the performance of Broadband Service Providers (BSPs) and ensure that consumers are receiving reliable and efficient internet connectivity.
The primary goal of the QoS surveys was to assess broadband performance based on several Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). These include:
Network Availability (Local and Core)
Jitter
Network Latency (Local and International segments)
According to the PTA’s findings, most broadband providers met the required standards for these essential KPIs, indicating consistent network stability and performance in many areas.
However, the survey also revealed that a notable number of BSPs were underperforming in certain cities when it came to Bandwidth Utilization—a key metric that affects user experience, especially during peak usage hours. Poor bandwidth utilization can lead to slower internet speeds and increased latency, which negatively impacts services like video streaming, online gaming, and virtual meetings.
In response, PTA has issued directives to the underperforming operators, urging them to take corrective measures to enhance their network capacity and improve overall service quality. The authority emphasized the importance of meeting national QoS standards to ensure customer satisfaction and support the country’s growing demand for digital services.
PTA’s QoS surveys highlight both the progress and challenges in Pakistan’s broadband infrastructure. While most providers are meeting performance benchmarks, improvements in bandwidth utilization are necessary in several areas. The regulator’s proactive stance ensures that internet users across Pakistan, AJK, and GB will continue to benefit from reliable and high-quality broadband services.
