The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has successfully concluded Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2025 with a high-level closing ceremony held in Islamabad.
The nationwide campaign, organized in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was observed from December 11 to 17, 2025, and aimed to strengthen public understanding of cyber hygiene, digital safety, and information integrity across Pakistan.
According to the official press release, the closing ceremony brought together senior government officials, international development partners, telecom operators, academics, and media representatives. The initiative focused on educating citizens about emerging cyber threats, misinformation, and digital fraud while promoting safer online practices in an increasingly connected society.
Speaking at the event, PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman HI (M), SI, described cybersecurity as a critical pillar of Pakistan’s digital transformation. He outlined PTA’s ongoing regulatory measures, public outreach programs, and multi-stakeholder partnerships designed to counter cyber risks and enhance consumer trust in digital services. The chairman emphasized that sustained awareness and collaboration are essential to building a secure and resilient digital ecosystem.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Attaullah Tarar, also addressed the ceremony, stressing the importance of responsible digital communication. He highlighted the need for strong institutional coordination to effectively combat misinformation and uphold information integrity, particularly in the age of social media and rapid online content sharing.
Adding an international perspective, Dr. Samuel Rizk, Resident Representative of UNDP Pakistan, underscored the importance of balanced digital regulation. He noted that as Pakistan continues to develop its digital regulatory framework, safeguards must be implemented to protect citizens while preserving legitimate freedom of expression.
A key highlight of the week was the Telecom Sector Showcase, where telecom operators presented their cybersecurity awareness initiatives. Outstanding contributions from industry stakeholders were formally recognized, reflecting the sector’s growing role in promoting digital safety.
PTA reaffirmed its commitment to advancing cybersecurity awareness through continued collaboration, innovation, and public engagement. The authority emphasized that initiatives like Cybersecurity Awareness Week are vital for empowering users, reducing digital risks, and supporting Pakistan’s long-term digital growth strategy.
