The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially announced that the long-awaited Spectrum Auction for Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS), including 5G, will take place on March 10, 2026.
The confirmation marks a major milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward next-generation connectivity and signals accelerated preparations for the nationwide rollout of 5G services.
According to PTA, the finalized auction schedule is the result of extensive stakeholder consultations and close regulatory coordination, aimed at ensuring a transparent, competitive, and well-structured auction process.
The authority emphasized that the timeline has been carefully designed to provide sufficient preparation time for telecom operators and prospective bidders, enabling them to meet all technical, financial, and regulatory requirements ahead of the auction.
The regulator reiterated its commitment to facilitating maximum participation while maintaining full compliance with established procedures and international best practices. By offering clarity well in advance, PTA aims to reduce uncertainty in the telecom sector and support informed decision-making by investors and industry players.
Industry experts believe the announcement will boost confidence among mobile network operators, vendors, and investors, as Pakistan prepares to unlock the economic potential of 5G technology. The introduction of NGMS is expected to enable faster data speeds, ultra-low latency, and enhanced network capacity, supporting innovations in sectors such as smart cities, healthcare, education, fintech, and industrial automation.
PTA has advised all interested parties to carefully review the Information Memorandum (IM) for NGMS/5G in Pakistan, which outlines the auction framework, eligibility criteria, spectrum details, and procedural guidelines. The IM serves as a key reference document for bidders planning to participate in the auction.
Stakeholders are also encouraged to remain updated through official notifications and announcements published on the PTA website, as further clarifications and auction-related information may be shared closer to the date.
With the auction date now confirmed, Pakistan’s telecom sector is entering a decisive phase that could reshape the country’s digital landscape and accelerate its transition toward a more connected, technology-driven economy.
