New USSD codes introduced to improve transparency and consumer control in telecom sector
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed all mobile operators to provide simplified access for users to view and deactivate unwanted Value Added Services (VAS), in a move aimed at improving transparency and protecting consumers from unexpected charges.
According to an official statement, mobile subscribers across Pakistan will now be able to check and manage their active VAS subscriptions through dedicated USSD codes issued by each telecom operator.
New USSD Codes Introduced for Major Networks
Under the new facilitation mechanism, users can access and unsubscribe from active services using the following codes:
Jazz: *6611#
Telenor: *4444#
Zong: *6611#
Ufone: *6869#
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said the initiative is designed to make subscription management more transparent and user-friendly, reducing confusion over hidden or unintended service charges.
Focus on Consumer Protection and Transparency
The regulator said the move aims to strengthen consumer rights by ensuring mobile users have full visibility of services they are being charged for.
Complaints regarding unintended activation of value-added services and unexpected balance deductions have been a recurring issue in Pakistan’s telecom sector, according to consumer feedback.
By introducing simplified access through USSD codes, the authority aims to reduce such grievances and enhance transparency across mobile networks.
Users Encouraged to Monitor Subscriptions
PTA has also encouraged mobile users to regularly check their active subscriptions and deactivate any services they no longer use to avoid unnecessary deductions.
Officials said the initiative reflects a broader commitment to a consumer-centric telecom environment where users have greater control over their mobile usage and spending.
Strengthening Telecom Oversight
The regulator reiterated its commitment to safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring fair practices across all telecom operators in Pakistan.
The latest directive forms part of ongoing efforts to improve service quality, increase transparency, and empower users with better control over digital services and subscriptions.
