PTA, FIA Crack Down on Illegal Mobile Boosters in Karachi

Pakistan Telecom Authority

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office Karachi, in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle Karachi, successfully carried out a raid against a retailer selling illegal mobile boosters and amplifiers.

During the operation, authorities confiscated 25 illegal mobile booster sets and a laptop from the retailer’s premises. The raid was part of an ongoing effort to curb the use of unauthorized equipment that interferes with telecommunication networks.

The FIA has launched an inquiry into the matter, ensuring strict legal action is taken against those involved.

Impact of Illegal Mobile Boosters

The PTA emphasized that the use of illegal mobile boosters and amplifiers severely disrupts the licensed spectrum allocated to cellular mobile operators (CMOs).

These unauthorized devices degrade the Quality of Service (QoS) provided by CMOs, resulting in signal interference, dropped calls, and poor network coverage for users.

Such disruptions not only affect everyday consumers but also create significant challenges for licensed telecom operators who strive to deliver reliable network services. The PTA reiterated its commitment to ensuring a high standard of telecommunication services across Pakistan by taking decisive action against the misuse of spectrum.

Advisory for Consumers

The PTA urged consumers to only use PTA Type-approved equipment to avoid legal consequences and ensure network stability. Devices that comply with PTA standards are thoroughly tested for quality and safety, ensuring they do not interfere with mobile signals or network performance.

Crackdown on Illegal Equipment Continues

This raid reflects the PTA’s broader efforts to eliminate the illegal sale and usage of mobile signal boosters nationwide. Retailers and individuals found involved in such activities may face strict penalties, including seizure of equipment, fines, and further legal action.

Consumers are encouraged to report unauthorized devices to the PTA to help maintain efficient telecommunication services. The authorities remain committed to safeguarding the spectrum and enhancing connectivity for millions of users across the country.
