PTA, Huawei Complete 5G Capacity-Building Training in Islamabad

Pakistan Telecom Authority

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with Huawei Pakistan, has successfully concluded a capacity-building training program focused on 5G and fixed network technologies.

The training was held at PTA Headquarters in Islamabad and marks another step toward strengthening Pakistan’s telecom regulatory and technical capabilities.

According to the official press release, the program took place on January 21, 2026, and was designed to equip PTA officials with in-depth knowledge of emerging telecommunications technologies. The initiative aimed to enhance institutional capacity and prepare regulators for the rapid evolution of next-generation digital networks.

The training sessions covered a wide range of critical topics related to modern telecom infrastructure. These included 5G backhaul and transport networks, fixed broadband technologies, and the ongoing evolution of 5G Radio Access Networks (RAN). Participants also received insights into core network digitalisation and advanced digital service capabilities, all of which are essential for supporting future-ready telecom ecosystems.

By focusing on both technical and regulatory aspects, the program enabled PTA professionals to gain practical exposure to real-world challenges associated with deploying and regulating advanced telecom networks. Such initiatives are increasingly important as Pakistan moves closer to adopting next-generation connectivity solutions, including nationwide 5G services.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, HI (M), appreciated Huawei Pakistan’s collaboration in strengthening institutional capacity and modernising regulatory practices. He highlighted that capacity-building initiatives like this play a crucial role in preparing the telecom sector to effectively address upcoming technological and regulatory challenges.

The PTA chairman further emphasized that exposure to global best practices and emerging technologies helps regulators stay aligned with international standards. This, in turn, supports the development of a competitive, secure, and innovation-driven telecom sector in Pakistan.

PTA reaffirmed its commitment to continuous professional development through constructive engagement with industry partners. The authority stated that such collaborations are vital for supporting Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda and building a resilient regulatory ecosystem.

As Pakistan’s demand for high-speed connectivity and digital services continues to grow, initiatives like the PTA-Huawei training program are expected to play a key role in ensuring the country’s telecom infrastructure and regulatory frameworks remain future-ready and globally competitive.
