The latest inspections bring the nationwide total to more than 900 sites, with authorities identifying power, equipment, battery and fibre-optic infrastructure issues.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has intensified its nationwide field monitoring activities, inspecting 184 mobile network sites between October 22 and 28, 2026, taking the cumulative number of monitored sites to more than 900.
The latest inspection campaign covered several areas across the country, including Nankana Sahib, Rahim Yar Khan, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Swat, Mirpur, Kotli, Gilgit and Torghar.
Monitoring activities were also carried out in South Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad and rural areas of Arifwala as part of the regulator’s efforts to identify service-related deficiencies and improve the quality of telecommunications infrastructure.
According to the PTA, the exercise was conducted in coordination with district administrations, elected representatives, local stakeholders and telecom operators. The collaborative approach aims to identify operational problems and facilitate their timely resolution through engagement with the relevant organisations.
The inspections highlighted several issues affecting mobile network infrastructure and service reliability. These included problems with electricity supply and backup arrangements, equipment deficiencies, battery and generator faults, and safety concerns involving fibre-optic cables.
The monitoring teams also identified administrative and infrastructure-related shortcomings requiring corrective action by the relevant stakeholders.
Power supply and backup redundancy remain important aspects of telecom network resilience, particularly in areas where electricity disruptions can affect the continuity of mobile services. Similarly, equipment and fibre-optic infrastructure issues can create operational challenges for telecom operators.
The PTA said it was pursuing corrective measures through continued field oversight and coordinated engagement with relevant stakeholders.
The regulator’s monitoring efforts are intended to address the identified gaps and strengthen the reliability, resilience and overall quality of telecommunications services across Pakistan.
With more than 900 mobile sites now monitored, the authority is continuing its nationwide oversight to encourage improvements in network infrastructure and ensure that service-related problems receive timely attention.
The latest inspections reflect the PTA’s focus on monitoring telecom operators’ infrastructure at the field level rather than relying solely on routine regulatory oversight.
