The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has once again urged mobile phone users across Pakistan to verify their SIM cards and ensure responsible usage, emphasizing that all SIMs must be registered strictly under the user’s own name.
The advisory aims to strengthen consumer awareness, enhance transparency, and protect national security by preventing the misuse of mobile connections.
In an official press release issued on December 31, 2025, PTA reminded consumers that using a SIM registered in another person’s name is a clear violation of telecom regulations.
According to the authority, the individual whose name appears on the SIM registration remains solely responsible for any activity, whether lawful or unlawful, carried out through that number. This includes potential misuse, fraud, or involvement in illegal activities.
PTA highlighted that responsible SIM ownership plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of Pakistan’s telecommunications network. Proper registration not only protects individual users but also supports law enforcement agencies in ensuring public safety and national security.
The authority stressed that careless handling of SIM registrations could lead to serious legal and financial consequences for registered owners.
To improve transparency and empower consumers, PTA has encouraged citizens to regularly check how many SIMs are registered against their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). Users can verify their SIM status by visiting the official website, cnic.sims.pk, or by sending their CNIC number (without dashes) via SMS to 668. Standard charges may apply for the SMS service. PTA also advised consumers to ensure that only SIMs that are genuinely required and actively used remain registered under their name.
Furthermore, PTA addressed concerns related to unauthorized SIM issuance. If any SIM is found to be registered without a consumer’s knowledge or consent, the authority has advised users to immediately contact their respective mobile service provider for resolution. Telecom operators are obligated to assist customers in such cases and take corrective action promptly.
Reaffirming its commitment, PTA stated that it will continue working towards promoting responsible SIM usage while ensuring secure, reliable, and uninterrupted telecom services nationwide. The authority urged the public to remain vigilant, verify their SIM records regularly, and play their part in maintaining a safe and transparent digital communication environment in Pakistan.
