Islamabad (September 6, 2025) – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has intensified its enforcement efforts against the illegal tampering of mobile phone IMEIs and the sale of cloned or patched devices.
In a coordinated operation, the PTA Zonal Office Abbottabad, working closely with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Abbottabad, conducted targeted raids at multiple locations involved in illicit mobile phone activities.
The crackdown focused on mobile repair shops near Fowara Masjid, Mochi Bazaar, Haripur, and Main GT Road, Haripur. Authorities seized a large number of items, including mobile phones, desktop computers, laptops, USB devices, and DVRs. During the raids, three individuals were apprehended on-site and handed over to NCCIA for further legal proceedings.
According to PTA officials, this action reinforces the authority’s zero-tolerance policy against IMEI tampering and the distribution of cloned mobile devices. Such practices not only pose a direct threat to national security but also endanger public safety by facilitating cybercrimes, financial fraud, and criminal anonymity.
The PTA highlighted that cloned devices undermine Pakistan’s digital ecosystem and disrupt secure communication services. To counter these threats, the authority is working in collaboration with NCCIA to ensure strict legal consequences for offenders.
The public has been urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activities related to illegal mobile phone usage or IMEI tampering. PTA warned that individuals found guilty of such crimes will face severe legal action under prevailing laws.
By continuing these nationwide operations, PTA aims to safeguard digital security and strengthen Pakistan’s telecommunication system. The authority has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating fraudulent practices, protecting consumers, and ensuring reliable mobile communication services across the country.
This latest crackdown is part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to combat digital fraud and cybercrimes, underscoring its mission to protect Pakistan’s growing digital landscape from unlawful activities.
