Partnership focuses on digital literacy, online safety awareness and responsible use of digital platforms.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Meta have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to strengthen cooperation on youth online safety, digital literacy and the responsible use of digital platforms in Pakistan.
The agreement establishes a collaborative framework aimed at promoting safer online experiences, particularly for children and young internet users, while encouraging greater digital awareness across the country.
Under the partnership, PTA and Meta will work together on capacity building, policy dialogue, public awareness campaigns and the exchange of global best practices related to online safety and digital well-being.
The collaboration will also support open and constructive dialogue between the two organisations to improve understanding of content safety practices and address emerging digital challenges in Pakistan.
PTA Chairman Maj Gen (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, HI (M), SI, said the partnership reflects the regulator’s commitment to creating a safer digital ecosystem for internet users.
“Through this partnership, PTA aims to promote digital literacy, encourage responsible online behaviour, and foster a safer and more secure digital environment for the people of Pakistan, particularly children and young users,” he said.
The initiative comes as online safety has become a growing priority for regulators and technology companies worldwide amid increasing concerns over cyberbullying, misinformation, online scams and harmful digital content affecting young users.
By combining PTA’s regulatory expertise with Meta’s global experience in online safety initiatives, the partnership aims to enhance public awareness of responsible digital behaviour while supporting the development of policies aligned with international best practices.
The agreement is also expected to facilitate knowledge sharing on emerging technologies, digital well-being and effective approaches to protecting users on online platforms.
The collaboration forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s digital ecosystem by promoting safe internet usage, improving digital literacy and encouraging responsible engagement across social media and other online services.
