Rumoured 20th anniversary iPhone could feature a redesigned display, under-display Face ID and a bigger battery.
Apple is reportedly testing a slightly larger display for its rumoured iPhone 20 Pro Max, as fresh leaks continue to reveal details about the company’s expected 20th anniversary iPhone lineup.
According to prominent tipster Digital Chat Station, Apple is evaluating a 6.96-inch display for the iPhone 20 Pro Max, which is expected to debut in 2027 to mark two decades since the launch of the original iPhone.
The reported screen would be only 0.06 inches larger than the display on the current iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, the tipster claims Apple plans to retain the existing aspect ratio, allowing the device to maintain a similar overall size and in-hand feel despite the slightly larger panel.
The leak adds to growing speculation that Apple is preparing a significant redesign for its flagship smartphones to commemorate the iPhone’s 20th anniversary.
Previous reports have suggested the anniversary models could be branded as the iPhone 20 instead of following Apple’s traditional numbering sequence.
The redesigned Pro models are rumoured to feature an edge-to-edge quad-curved display, reducing visible bezels while offering a more immersive viewing experience. Apple is also reportedly testing solid-state buttons, replacing traditional mechanical buttons with pressure-sensitive controls.
Another major rumoured upgrade is the introduction of under-display Face ID, which would move Apple’s facial recognition sensors beneath the screen, allowing for a cleaner display design with fewer visible cut-outs.
The devices are also expected to feature enhanced Ceramic Shield protection extending to the sides of the handset, improving durability against accidental drops and impacts.
Battery life could receive a notable boost as well. Recent leaks indicate the iPhone 20 Pro lineup may include batteries with capacities of up to 6,000mAh, alongside support for reverse wireless charging, enabling users to charge compatible accessories directly from their iPhone.
Apple has not confirmed any details regarding its future iPhone lineup, and the reported specifications remain based on leaks and industry sources.
If accurate, the anniversary models would represent one of the most significant hardware redesigns since the introduction of the iPhone X in 2017.
