PTA Raids Jazz Franchisees Over Illegal SIM Issuance

Pakistan Telecom Authority

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has intensified its ongoing nationwide efforts against illegal SIM activations, conducting a series of successful raids targeting Jazz franchisees involved in unauthorized SIM issuance.

The latest crackdown was carried out by PTA’s Zonal Office Lahore in close coordination with the National Central Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

According to the official press release issued on November 26, 2025, the raids were conducted across multiple districts, including Shahkot in Nankana Sahib, Haveli Lakha in Okara, and Yazman in Bahawalpur. The action came after PTA received formal complaints regarding fraudulent SIM activations being carried out through biometric verification systems, posing potential security risks.

During the coordinated raids, the PTA–NCCIA team seized a large number of suspicious SIMs along with equipment used for unauthorized biometric processing and illegal activations. All confiscated items have been handed over to NCCIA as evidence for further legal proceedings.

The enforcement operation also led to multiple arrests. In Shahkot and Haveli Lakha, a franchise Customer Service Representative (CSR) was taken into custody. In Yazman, three individuals — including the franchise owner and the manager or supervisor — were apprehended for their involvement in fraudulent activities. FIRs have been registered, and NCCIA has launched a deeper investigation to dismantle networks enabling the illegal issuance of SIMs.

PTA stated that these enforcement measures reinforce its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS), which is designed to prevent misuse of biometric authentication. The authority emphasized that illegal SIM issuance poses significant threats to national security and public safety.

PTA has urged citizens to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious or unauthorized SIM issuance through its official complaint channels. Users can contact the Toll-Free Helpline at 0800-55055.

With these decisive actions, PTA aims to strengthen regulatory compliance and eliminate unlawful SIM activations across the country.
