PTA registers BIGO LIVE and Likee platforms in Pakistan

Registration under Pakistan’s online content rules aims to strengthen content moderation, responsible platform use and legal compliance.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has formally registered BIGO LIVE and Likee platforms in Pakistan under Bigo Service Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd., marking a step towards strengthening regulatory engagement with major social media platforms.

According to an announcement issued on November 4, 2026, the registration has been completed in accordance with the Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguards) Rules, 2021.

Following the registration, PTA said it looks forward to strengthening its collaboration with BIGO to improve content moderation mechanisms, promote responsible platform use and ensure continued compliance with Pakistan’s applicable laws.

The authority said the development represents an important step towards enhancing engagement with major social media platforms operating in the country.

BIGO LIVE and Likee are now registered under Bigo Service Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. in accordance with the relevant regulatory framework.

PTA also highlighted the importance of cooperation with digital platforms to promote a safe, responsible and secure online environment for users across Pakistan.

The registration comes as the authority continues its engagement with social media companies over compliance with local laws and the handling of unlawful online content.

Through closer collaboration with platform operators, PTA aims to strengthen content moderation practices and encourage responsible use of digital services.

The authority described the registration as part of its efforts to foster a safer digital environment while ensuring that major online platforms remain aligned with Pakistan’s applicable legal requirements.
