Islamabad — The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced a nationwide move to block mobile phone SIMs registered against expired, cancelled, or invalid Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), as well as those issued in the names of deceased individuals.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the PTA emphasized its commitment to ensuring secure and uninterrupted mobile connectivity for all users. The authority warned that SIMs linked to invalid or outdated CNICs may soon face disconnection as part of a broader effort to enhance compliance and strengthen the telecom sector’s regulatory framework.
The PTA has urged all cellular users to verify the status of their CNICs and take immediate steps to renew any expired documents. Subscribers have also been advised to resolve any cancellation issues with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to avoid service disruptions.
Additionally, the regulator stressed that SIMs must not be registered under the identity of deceased individuals, as such cases will also be subject to blocking. Authorities believe that addressing these irregularities will help prevent misuse of mobile connections and improve overall security.
This initiative is part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to protect consumer interests while ensuring a transparent and reliable telecom ecosystem. By enforcing stricter verification measures, the authority aims to curb illegal SIM usage and enhance digital security across Pakistan.
Officials have encouraged users to act promptly, warning that failure to update CNIC information could result in temporary or permanent suspension of mobile services nationwide.
