PTA Urges Balance Save Service to Protect Prepaid Balance

Pakistan Telecom Authority

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public advisory urging mobile users across Pakistan to activate a free “Balance Save” service to avoid unexpected deductions from their prepaid balance.

According to the advisory released on March 19, 2026, the regulator highlighted a common issue faced by mobile consumers. When subscribed data bundles expire or are fully consumed, mobile internet services often continue automatically on Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) rates. These rates are significantly higher than standard bundle charges, leading to unintended and sometimes substantial balance deductions.

To address this concern, PTA emphasized that all major telecom operators in Pakistan offer a free Balance Save service—also known as a PayG Blocker. Once activated, this feature automatically stops mobile data usage as soon as the subscribed internet bundle expires. This ensures that users do not incur additional charges unknowingly and helps protect their remaining balance.

The authority encouraged users to take advantage of this service by dialing specific activation codes provided by their respective mobile operators. Customers of Jazz can activate it by dialing *275#, while users of Zong can dial *4004#. Subscribers of Ufone need to dial *6611#, and Telenor Pakistan users can enable the service via *342#.

PTA reiterated that this initiative is part of its broader efforts to enhance consumer protection and promote transparency within Pakistan’s telecom sector. By raising awareness about such preventive tools, the authority aims to empower users with greater control over their mobile usage and expenses.

The regulator also advised consumers to remain vigilant about their data usage and regularly monitor their active bundles. Activating the Balance Save service is a simple yet effective step to prevent unnecessary financial loss, especially for prepaid users who rely on limited balances.

With increasing dependence on mobile internet, PTA’s advisory serves as an important reminder for users to safeguard their balance and make informed decisions regarding their telecom services.
