PTA Urges Consumers To Ensure Responsible SIM Usage

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an advisory urging telecom consumers across the country to ensure responsible SIM usage and strictly follow registration rules.

In its latest public notice, released on December 24, 2025, the regulatory body emphasized that all SIM cards must be registered in the user’s own name, and any SIM issued under another individual’s identity will be treated as a violation of telecom regulations.

According to PTA, the misuse of a SIM or telecom connection remains the sole responsibility of the registered user. This includes all calls, messages, and data activity made through the SIM or any connected device.

The authority reiterated that consumers must exercise caution and accountability when using their mobile and communication services, as any unlawful activity may lead to enforcement action under applicable laws.

The regulator further highlighted that responsible SIM ownership is essential for public safety, digital transparency, and national security. PTA reminded consumers that failure to comply with rules and regulations may result in penalties or legal consequences in the event of misuse or criminal activity linked to an unregistered or misused SIM.

In its statement, PTA also encouraged citizens to play an active role in strengthening Pakistan’s telecom ecosystem by adhering to identity verification procedures and discouraging the sharing or lending of SIM cards. The authority stated that responsible behavior from consumers helps maintain the integrity, reliability, and stability of the country’s telecommunications network.

Additionally, PTA stressed the importance of public awareness regarding telecom fraud, identity misuse, and illegal SIM issuance. By ensuring that each SIM remains registered to its rightful owner, the authority believes potential risks can be significantly minimized, including cybercrime, financial scams, and unauthorized digital activities.

The advisory forms part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital security and promote safe communication practices nationwide. The authority urged consumers to regularly review their registered SIMs, report suspicious activity, and remain compliant with regulatory requirements to avoid complications or enforcement actions.

With Pakistan’s telecom sector continuing to expand rapidly, PTA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding consumer interests while fostering a secure and accountable communication environment across the country.
