PTA Warns of SIM Suspension Over Invalid CNIC Status

Pakistan Telecom Authority

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important advisory urging all mobile subscribers to ensure that their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) status remains valid and updated.

The telecom regulator has warned that mobile services may be suspended or blocked if a SIM card is linked to a CNIC that falls under certain invalid categories.

According to PTA, SIMs registered against cancelled CNICs, expired CNICs, or CNICs belonging to deceased individuals are at risk of being blocked. The authority emphasized that maintaining an active and valid CNIC is essential to avoid disruption in mobile services.

The advisory highlights three key CNIC statuses that could lead to suspension of mobile connections. These include cancelled CNICs, expired CNICs, and records marked under deceased individuals. If a subscriber’s identification record falls into any of these categories, telecom operators may suspend the associated SIM cards in compliance with regulatory requirements.

To prevent inconvenience, PTA has strongly encouraged mobile users to take immediate action. Subscribers are advised to renew expired CNICs without delay and resolve any cancellation-related issues directly with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). The authority also stressed the importance of ensuring that SIM cards are not registered against the CNIC of a deceased person, as such records are subject to automatic blocking under existing regulations.

PTA’s latest warning is part of ongoing efforts to enhance security, improve data accuracy, and curb misuse of mobile connections across the country. The regulator continues to work closely with telecom operators and NADRA to ensure that SIM registration records remain authentic and up to date.

Mobile users are advised to check their CNIC validity status and verify the number of SIMs registered against their identity. Taking proactive steps now can help avoid unexpected service suspension and ensure uninterrupted mobile connectivity.

Subscribers can contact their respective mobile operators or visit NADRA offices for assistance in resolving any CNIC-related issues.
