Islamabad, September 22, 2025 – The Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) has called on the government to grant taxpayers more time for their annual return filing for tax year 2025.

In a formal letter to Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the PTBA demanded that the September 30, 2025 deadline be extended by at least one month.

The association stressed that the recent floods and heavy rains have badly affected large parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, and other areas. Many businesses, households, and professionals are struggling to cope with losses, travel restrictions, and damaged infrastructure. Under these circumstances, the PTBA argued, meeting the existing deadline for return filing is not realistic.

The letter further pointed out technical difficulties with the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) online IRIS system. According to the PTBA, frequent crashes and slow response times make it extremely difficult for taxpayers to complete their returns smoothly. These persistent issues add further stress to an already challenging situation. The association proposed that the filing deadline be moved to October 31, 2025, with the possibility of a further extension if conditions do not improve. It added that providing relief would not only encourage broader compliance but also prevent taxpayers from facing unnecessary legal or financial penalties.

The PTBA expressed confidence that the finance ministry would take a practical and compassionate approach in light of the hardships faced nationwide.
