Lahore, October 4, 2025 – The Punjab government has once again extended its province-wide ban on the use of wheat in poultry feed mills, aiming to safeguard the availability of flour and bread for the public.
The restriction, imposed under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, will now remain in force for another 30 days, up to Sunday, November 2.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, all supplies of wheat must be directed exclusively to flour mills for human consumption. The measure comes amid growing concerns that large volumes of wheat were being diverted to animal feed, threatening the province’s food security.
A spokesperson for the Home Department stated that over 100,000 metric tons of wheat had already been stockpiled by feed mills, with indications that a substantial portion was intended for use in poultry feed production. This practice, officials noted, risked reducing the availability of flour for households and bakeries across the province.
The Secretary of Price Control and Commodities Management emphasized that while the poultry sector is vital for meeting protein needs, it cannot be allowed to compromise human access to essential staples. Authorities underscored that poultry producers should seek alternative feed ingredients rather than relying on wheat.
To ensure compliance, public awareness campaigns are being launched through gazette notifications, newspapers, and electronic media. The Punjab government has reiterated its resolve to protect food security while maintaining oversight on both flour mills and poultry feed producers.
