Punjab, April 28, 2025 – There appears to be no immediate respite for the people of Punjab as extreme heat continues to dominate the region’s weather conditions.
According to the latest advisory issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), many districts across Punjab will remain under the grip of intense heat for at least the next two days.
The PMD has forecast that the weather on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, will stay predominantly hot and dry across most districts of Punjab, with gusty winds expected during the afternoon hours. In particular, southern Punjab is likely to face even more severe conditions, where the heat will reach extreme levels. Daytime temperatures are predicted to remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average, worsening the already challenging weather situation.
On Monday, the weather pattern mirrored similar conditions, with hot and dry weather recorded across Punjab. Gusty winds were observed in various areas, yet they provided little relief from the persistent heat. Southern districts, including Bahawalpur, Multan, and Dera Ghazi Khan, experienced the most intense conditions, with temperatures soaring well beyond normal levels.
The PMD has also issued a broader heatwave warning, highlighting that temperatures in the southern half of the country, including southern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, are expected to remain 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal until at least April 30. In contrast, central and upper Punjab, along with Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, will see temperatures staying 4 to 6 degrees above usual averages.
The synoptic situation indicates that a strong high-pressure system prevailing in the upper atmosphere is responsible for trapping heat across much of Pakistan, including Punjab. This system is expected to persist until the end of the month, maintaining the intense weather conditions.
Over the past 24 hours, the heat has been relentless across the country, with the southern regions experiencing the worst of it. Temperatures reached as high as 48°C in Shaheed Benazirabad, while several other areas, including Khairpur, Padidan, and Sakrand, recorded highs of 47°C.
With the heat showing no signs of abating, residents of Punjab are advised to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid unnecessary exposure to the scorching weather conditions over the coming days.
