Punjab Braces for Widespread Rains Across Districts

Islamabad, February 23, 2025 – Punjab is set to experience widespread rainfall accompanied by gusty winds across various districts in the coming week, according to the latest weather forecast issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The province is expected to receive intermittent showers, with some areas likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall and snowfall.

A strong westerly weather system is anticipated to approach the western regions of Pakistan by Monday evening or night. This system will progressively extend towards the upper parts of the country on Tuesday and is likely to persist in the northern areas, including parts of Punjab, until March 2.

Under the influence of this weather system, significant rainfall and strong winds are expected in several districts. Areas such as Murree, Galliyat, and their surroundings will likely receive consistent rainfall and snowfall from February 27 to March 1. Similarly, intermittent rain is predicted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum during this period.

Meanwhile, widespread rain accompanied by gusty winds is forecast for numerous districts of Punjab, including Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, and Toba Tek Singh. These areas are expected to experience wet conditions from the evening or night of February 25 until February 28.

Further south, districts such as Jhang, Bhakkar, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Taunsa, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Okara, Bahawalnagar, and Bahawalpur will likely receive rainfall between February 25 and February 27.

The PMD has warned that heavy rain and snowfall may lead to road closures and slippery conditions in Murree, Galliyat, and surrounding areas. The possibility of hailstorms in the plains of Punjab has also been highlighted. Tourists and commuters are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during this period.

In Lahore, the minimum temperature is expected to range between 10°C and 12°C on Monday, while Tuesday may see temperatures between 11°C and 13°C. Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed across most districts of Punjab. However, Murree recorded 1 mm of rainfall, making it the coldest location in Pakistan with a temperature dropping to 1°C. In Lahore, the morning humidity stood at 83 per cent, with a minimum temperature of 11°C recorded.

Punjab residents are urged to stay updated with weather advisories and prepare for potential disruptions caused by the incoming rain and wind system.
