The Punjab government has officially announced that summer vacations for all public and private schools across the province will now continue until August 31, with classes set to resume on September 1.
This latest decision, issued via an official notification from the School Education Department on Wednesday, overrides the earlier directive to reopen schools on August 14.
According to the notification, all district education authorities (DEAs) in Punjab have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the revised schedule. While the document did not specify the exact cause, the extension is widely seen as a response to the ongoing extreme weather conditions affecting much of the province during the summer.
This is the second change to the academic timetable this summer, following an earlier adjustment to the reopening date. Parents, students, and teachers are advised to take note of the revised plan, while school administrations will need to modify lesson schedules and other academic activities to fit the new timeline.
The Punjab government has yet to clarify whether the prolonged summer vacations will impact the overall academic calendar, term durations, or examination schedules. Education authorities have assured that any necessary adjustments will be communicated promptly to avoid disruption.
Punjab School Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat also confirmed the news in a post on social media, stating: “Schools in Punjab will be opened from Sept 1.”
For now, students across the province can enjoy an extended break, as summer vacations in Punjab stretch further into the season.
