Punjab Faces Lengthy Rain Spell with Stormy Conditions

Islamabad, March 13, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a prolonged spell of rain in several districts of Punjab over the next 24 hours.

The upcoming weather conditions are expected to bring widespread showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across various parts of the province.

Weather Outlook for Punjab

On Thursday night, March 13, 2025, the weather in most districts of Punjab is expected to remain dry and partly cloudy. However, light rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms may occur in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sialkot, and Narowal. Additionally, Murree, Galliyat, and nearby regions are likely to experience cloudy weather with light rain.

On Friday, March 14, 2025, Punjab will witness more significant rainfall. Rain-wind and thunderstorms are expected in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Layyah, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, and Sheikhupura. Murree and Galliyat will continue to see cloudy weather with intermittent showers. In southern Punjab, including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur, gusty winds and light thunderstorms may develop during the evening and night hours.

At the national level, the PMD has stated that a shallow westerly wave is currently affecting the upper and central parts of Pakistan and is expected to strengthen on Friday, bringing more rain to Punjab and other regions.

Weather Conditions Nationwide

On Thursday, most parts of the country will experience dry weather, but isolated rain-wind/thunderstorms (with snow over high mountains) may occur in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar Region, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.

On Friday, the PMD predicts rain, wind, and thunderstorms across northeast Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, central and upper Punjab, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Light showers and thunderstorms may also develop in southern Punjab and upper Sindh by evening or night, while the rest of the country will experience dry and partly cloudy conditions.

Past 24-Hour Weather Report

In the past 24 hours, most of Punjab experienced dry and partly cloudy weather, except for upper Punjab, where scattered rain showers were recorded. Murree received 10mm of rain, while Mandi Bahauddin recorded 5mm, Chakwal 3mm, and Attock, Gujrat, and Jhelum each recorded 1mm.

Elsewhere in Pakistan, moderate rainfall was recorded in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
