Islamabad, March 11, 2025 – A fresh weather system is set to bring rainfall across several districts of Punjab, beginning March 14, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The PMD has forecasted weather changes in Punjab, with intermittent showers expected from March 14 to March 16. These rains are likely to break the ongoing dry spell, which has led to a steady rise in temperatures across the province.
“There is a strong possibility of rain in various areas of Punjab, which will provide much-needed relief from the dry weather,” a PMD spokesperson said. “The temperatures have been increasing gradually, but the arrival of this system may bring them down.”
According to the PMD, the provincial capital, Lahore, is expected to experience a minimum temperature of 17°C, while the maximum could reach 28°C. The weather is likely to remain dry on Tuesday (today) and Wednesday (tomorrow) before rain showers begin.
Despite the PMD’s forecast, conflicting predictions have emerged from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The PDMA had earlier forecasted rain from March 9 to March 16, but so far, no rainfall has been recorded in Punjab. The discrepancy in predictions has caused uncertainty among residents and farmers who are relying on timely rainfall for agricultural purposes.
Meanwhile, as Punjab prepares for rain, Sindh continues to endure hot and dry weather conditions, particularly in Karachi. The city remains under the influence of a heat wave, with temperatures soaring to 39.1°C on Monday. The PMD has predicted that Karachi’s maximum temperature for the next 24 hours could reach 38°C, with the minimum hovering around 20°C.
The ongoing heat wave in Karachi is attributed to a high-pressure system over Rajasthan, India, which has been affecting the surrounding regions. However, PMD officials noted that this system is gradually weakening, and a new high-pressure formation over the Arabian Sea might bring stronger winds. If these winds move closer to Karachi, temperatures could drop slightly to around 33-34°C.
As residents of Punjab anticipate rainfall in the coming days, authorities are advising people to stay updated on weather alerts to prepare for potential disruptions caused by the expected showers.
