Punjab Set for Significant Temperature Spike Ahead

Islamabad, March 20, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a significant rise in temperatures across most districts of Punjab in the coming days.

According to the latest weather advisory, a continental air system continues to prevail over most parts of Pakistan, contributing to increasing temperatures across the province.

Under these prevailing weather conditions, certain areas of Punjab, including Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Sahiwal, may experience isolated rain showers accompanied by gusty winds on Thursday evening or night. Meanwhile, Murree and Galliyat are expected to witness partly cloudy weather conditions, offering some respite from the rising temperatures.

As the week progresses, Friday and Saturday are likely to bring predominantly dry weather across Lahore and most other districts of Punjab. This prolonged dry spell is expected to intensify the upward trend in temperatures, particularly in the provincial capital and other low-lying regions. From March 21 onward, temperatures in Punjab will gradually increase, affecting both urban and rural areas alike.

In Lahore, the minimum temperature is projected to range between 17°C and 19°C on Friday, while on Saturday, it may vary between 18°C and 20°C. As temperatures rise, residents are advised to take precautions against heat exposure and ensure proper hydration. The impact of increasing temperatures will be felt across Punjab, particularly in regions where dry weather persists.

During the last 24 hours, most districts of Punjab experienced dry weather conditions. However, some upper parts of the province witnessed sporadic rainfall. The recorded rainfall (in millimeters) included Islamabad (Saidpur 13, City 07, Zeropoint 06, Golra 05, Bokra 02), Murree 11, and Rawalpindi (Shamsabad 04, Chaklala 03, Katcheri 02). Jhelum also recorded 02mm of rain.

Murree remained the coldest location in Pakistan, with the minimum temperature dipping to 03°C. Meanwhile, Lahore recorded a minimum temperature of 16°C, with a relative humidity level of 55% in the morning. As temperatures in Punjab continue to rise, weather conditions will remain warm and dry, necessitating appropriate measures for heat management across the province.
