Islamabad, February 13, 2025 — The province of Punjab is set to experience predominantly cold and dry weather on Thursday, with very cold conditions forecasted for Murree, Galiyat, and the surrounding hilly regions.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), shallow fog is expected to form in several districts, including Bahawalpur, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rahim Yar Khan, particularly during the early morning hours, which may significantly reduce visibility.
The weather in Punjab will remain chilly throughout the day, with nighttime temperatures dropping further. Punjab’s residents are advised to take precautions against the cold and to stay alert when traveling during foggy conditions. The PMD emphasized that Punjab’s fog formation is typical during this time of the year, but it can cause disruptions to transportation networks, especially on highways.
Cold and dry conditions are also expected across most parts of the country, with very cold weather anticipated in the hilly areas during morning and night hours. The federal capital, Islamabad, and its adjacent regions will experience similar cold and dry weather throughout the day.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern districts will endure particularly chilly mornings and nights. Meanwhile, Sindh will continue to experience dry weather with no significant meteorological changes anticipated. Balochistan will witness cold and dry weather, particularly in its northern districts, where temperatures are expected to drop significantly during early hours. Additionally, gusty winds are forecasted to blow across the province in the afternoon.
In the regions of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the weather will remain exceptionally cold and dry, with temperatures plummeting at higher altitudes. Residents in these areas should prepare for freezing conditions and avoid unnecessary exposure to the cold.
Over the last 24 hours, cold and dry weather dominated most parts of the country. However, isolated rainfall accompanied by snowfall occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. Rainfall was recorded in Balakot, Malam Jabba, and Kalam (3mm each), while Pattan and Chitral received 1mm. In Kashmir, Muzaffarabad (Airport) and Kotli recorded 1mm of rainfall.
The lowest temperature recorded nationwide was -9°C in Leh, followed by Gupis at -5°C. Quetta, Hunza, Astore, and Parachinar each recorded -3°C, while Malam Jabba, Kalat, Skardu, and Kalam reported -2°C.
With temperatures continuing to decline, residents of Punjab and other affected areas are urged to stay warm and exercise caution, particularly during foggy morning hours, to ensure safe travel.
