Meeting explores blockchain, tokenisation, stablecoins and international digital asset practices for Pakistan
Chairman Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) Bilal Bin Saqib called on Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday and briefed him on his recent visit to Hong Kong.
During the meeting, Bilal Bin Saqib shared details of his engagements with Hong Kong policymakers and key financial institutions, including the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau, Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Securities and Futures Commission.
He highlighted discussions on knowledge-sharing, international experience and successful use cases that could be relevant to Pakistan’s emerging virtual assets and digital finance ecosystem.
The meeting focused on opportunities in virtual assets and digital finance, particularly the potential use of blockchain and tokenisation technologies in financial markets.
Bilal also briefed the Finance Minister on international approaches towards digital assets, stablecoins, compliance frameworks and digital financial infrastructure.
He shared key insights and use cases discussed during his engagements with Hong Kong officials, highlighting their potential applicability to Pakistan’s developing virtual assets sector.
The PVARA chairman also discussed digital financial products, tokenisation and potential areas for institutional cooperation between Pakistan and international financial institutions.
Finance Minister stresses responsible digital assets ecosystem
Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb welcomed the briefing and emphasised the importance of developing a responsible, transparent and well-structured digital assets ecosystem in Pakistan.
He said the country needed to support innovation while maintaining appropriate safeguards to ensure the development of a secure and sustainable digital financial environment.
The Finance Minister also appreciated Bilal Bin Saqib’s efforts to engage with international policymakers and financial institutions.
He stressed the importance of building on such international engagements to identify practical use cases and opportunities that could contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s digital financial ecosystem.
The discussions come as Pakistan continues to explore emerging technologies and regulatory frameworks surrounding virtual assets and digital finance.
The engagement with Hong Kong institutions could provide Pakistan with international experience in areas such as digital assets regulation, stablecoins, blockchain applications and tokenisation.
