PYMA, NTC Discuss Challenges Facing the Textile Sector

Karachi, February 27, 2025 – A high-level delegation from the National Tariff Commission (NTC), led by Chairman Naeem Anwer, visited the Pakistan Yarn Merchants Association (PYMA) to engage in in-depth discussions regarding the pressing challenges facing the textile sector.

The meeting, attended by key stakeholders, aimed to evaluate the current hurdles and devise potential strategies to strengthen the industry.

The NTC delegation included Iqbal Tabish, Member of the NTC, and Mazhar Ghafoor, Deputy Director of the NTC. Representing PYMA were Altaf Haroon, Vice Chairman of the Sindh & Baluchistan Region; Khursheed Ahmed Shaikh, Former Central Chairman and Chairman of the NTC Committee at PYMA; Muhammad Usman, Former Central Chairman; M. Aslam Moten, Former Vice Chairman; Sohail Nisar, Former Senior Vice Chairman; Javed Khanani, Former Vice Chairman; along with other key members of the Executive Committee.

A key point of discussion was the impact of anti-dumping measures on Pakistan’s textile industry, a sector crucial to the country’s economic stability and export potential. The NTC delegation presented an in-depth study titled “Industrial Competitiveness and Export Growth of the Textile Sector Including MMF,” which outlined various strategies aimed at improving the industry’s global positioning.

“The implications of these anti-dumping measures have placed significant burdens on the textile industry, and both PYMA and NTC examined the issue thoroughly to identify possible relief strategies,” said a representative from PYMA.

NTC officials emphasized the need for industry-specific data to formulate effective policies. PYMA assured full cooperation in providing relevant data to aid in the development of solutions tailored to the industry’s needs. This collaboration between PYMA and NTC reflects a shared commitment to fostering growth, ensuring competitiveness, and enhancing Pakistan’s textile exports in the global market.

Moving forward, PYMA and NTC agreed to maintain an open line of communication to address industry concerns proactively. Both entities underscored the importance of policy adjustments and regulatory refinements to counteract the negative effects of anti-dumping measures. PYMA reaffirmed its dedication to working with NTC to safeguard the textile sector’s interests and drive sustainable growth.
