Islamabad, December 23, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast severe cold conditions in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, over the next 72 hours, with temperatures likely to plunge further below freezing.
According to the PMD, the current minimum temperature in Quetta is hovering around -3°C, and the cold spell is expected to intensify, with the mercury potentially falling to as low as -5°C in the coming days. The weather authority has advised residents to take necessary precautions, particularly during night and early morning hours.
In its provincial outlook for Balochistan, the PMD said that cold and dry weather will prevail across most districts on Tuesday and Wednesday, while very cold conditions are expected in the northern parts of the province, including Quetta, Kalat, and surrounding areas.
At the national level, the PMD reported that continental air is dominating most parts of the country, contributing to widespread cold and dry weather. For both Tuesday and Wednesday, cold to very cold conditions are expected nationwide, especially in northern regions. The department also warned that moderate to dense fog is likely to persist in the plains of Punjab and upper Sindh, which may disrupt road and air travel.
Reviewing the weather conditions of the past 24 hours, the PMD said that rain, with snowfall over mountainous areas, was recorded in Kashmir, the Pothohar region, Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Other parts of the country remained cold and dry, while dense fog affected several districts of Punjab and upper Sindh.
The lowest minimum temperatures recorded included Leh at -8°C, Gupis at -4°C, Kalam and Quetta at -3°C, Kalat at -2°C, and Malam Jabba at -1°C, indicating the intensity of the ongoing winter spell.
