Rain Delays India vs. Pakistan Super Four Clash to Reserve Day

Rain in Colombo has forced the India vs. Pakistan Asia Cup Super Four clash to be postponed to a reserve day. The game is now set to continue as a full 50-over contest, with India positioned at 147 for 2 after completing 24.1 overs.

India made an impressive start to the match, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill notching up half-centuries at an impressive run rate during their opening partnership of 121 runs.

In the initial overs, Shaheen Shah Afridi struggled, delivering an expensive spell, while Naseem Shah faced bad luck on the opposite end, consistently challenging Rohit’s bat with outswing and extra bounce. Pakistan managed to regain some control by dismissing both openers within a span of eight balls.

Shaheen, despite earlier leaving the field due to a finger injury, made a return to take Gill’s wicket with a well-executed slower ball. However, just as Virat Kohli and KL Rahul took their positions at the crease, rain intervened.

The rain eventually subsided, allowing the umpires to assess the ground conditions at 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm. Another inspection was scheduled for 8:30 pm, with particular attention to two problematic areas square of the wicket.

Unfortunately, the rain returned, putting to rest any hopes of completing the match on Sunday, with possible over reductions.

Furthermore, the weather forecast for Colombo indicates the possibility of more rain on Monday. If the match does resume, India may find themselves playing on three consecutive days, as their Super Four encounter with Sri Lanka is slated for Tuesday.
