Rain expected in Islamabad amid pre-monsoon activity

Monsoon Rainfall

Islamabad, June 22, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted the likelihood of rain in Islamabad and its adjoining areas on Monday, June 23, 2025, as part of ongoing pre-monsoon weather activity affecting the upper regions of the country.

According to the PMD, there is a 55% probability of rain in Islamabad on Monday. The forecast suggests that residents of the capital city should prepare for partly cloudy conditions, accompanied by rain, wind, and potential thundershowers. The PMD has also indicated chances of isolated heavyfalls in some areas, raising the possibility of sudden downpours.

The weather department has further noted that on the evening of Sunday, June 22, Islamabad is also likely to experience rain, with similar wind and thunderstorm conditions. These rain spells are associated with moist currents moving in from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, while a westerly wave is currently impacting the upper parts of Pakistan.

The national weather outlook indicates that hot and humid conditions will continue to prevail in most regions of the country. However, the upper regions, including Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, are expected to receive rain and thundershowers both on Sunday night and throughout Monday. Isolated heavy rainfall may occur, particularly in the Potohar region, which includes the federal capital.

Over the past 24 hours, Islamabad experienced varying degrees of rainfall across multiple localities. According to PMD data, Islamabad’s Zero Point received 85mm of rain, Bokra recorded 26mm, Saidpur 17mm, and Golra 4mm. These rainfalls have brought temporary relief from the heat, while also contributing to the humid conditions currently observed in the city.

The PMD has advised citizens in Islamabad to remain cautious due to the possibility of heavy rain and related weather hazards such as waterlogging or traffic disruption. Authorities have also been urged to stay alert and ensure drainage systems are prepared for any intense rain activity.

In summary, rain is likely to visit Islamabad at least twice in the coming 24 hours—first on Sunday night, and again on Monday—bringing some respite from the heat but also prompting precautionary measures due to the unpredictable nature of the pre-monsoon showers.
