Islamabad, April 16, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a change in weather for the scenic hills of Punjab, as rain is expected in Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding areas on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
This comes amid an otherwise widespread spell of hot and dry weather across most of the province.
According to the latest Pakistan Meteorological Department advisory, a shallow westerly wave is currently affecting the upper parts of the country and is likely to persist until April 20. This system is expected to bring rain, wind, and thunderstorms to isolated locations, particularly in the northern districts, including the hill stations of Murree and Galiyat.
While the majority of Punjab, including major cities, will continue to experience dry and hot daytime temperatures, a shift in weather is forecasted during the evening and nighttime hours. Areas such as Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Talagang, Mianwali, and parts of central Punjab like Faisalabad and Jhang could see dust and thunderstorms. Hailstorms may also develop in some regions.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department specifically mentioned that partly cloudy conditions will prevail during the day in Murree, Galiyat, and adjacent areas, with rain-wind/thunderstorm activity likely to develop by the evening. These intermittent showers could offer temporary relief from the rising temperatures and dry winds, especially for tourists heading towards Murree to enjoy cooler climates.
In the central districts of Punjab, including Sargodha and Toba Tek Singh, isolated dust storms and rain are also expected during the nighttime, although the intensity will be less compared to northern highland areas.
Travelers and local authorities are advised to stay alert for sudden weather changes, especially in Murree, where heavy tourist influx is common, and rain can lead to slippery roads and visibility issues. The Pakistan Meteorological Department will continue monitoring the situation and issue updates as necessary.
