Islamabad, January 6, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting rain for Quetta and Ziarat on Sunday, January 7, 2024.
According to the PMD, while most districts of Balochistan are expected to experience cold and dry weather, there is a likelihood of cloudy conditions in northwestern Balochistan, with chances of rain and snow over mountains in various regions.
The areas expected to witness precipitation include Quetta, Chaman, Ziarat, Qila Abdullah, Noshki, Kalat, Chaghi, Turbat, Gwadar, Kech, Toba Achakzai, Kan Mehtarzai, and Panjgur. The residents of these regions are advised to prepare for potential changes in weather conditions and take necessary precautions.
The overall weather forecast for the country on Sunday, January 7, 2024, as stated by the PMD, anticipates mainly cold and dry weather in most parts, with particularly chilly conditions in the northern regions. Balochistan, on the other hand, is expected to experience cloudy weather with rain-thunderstorm and snow over mountains at scattered places.
Dense fog and smog are likely to persist in Islamabad, Punjab, upper Sindh, and plain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The PMD has issued a warning, indicating that dense fog may continue over the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Upper Sindh throughout the week. Reflecting on the weather conditions for Saturday, January 6, 2024, the PMD reported that the majority of the country experienced cold and dry weather, with northern parts and northern Balochistan being exceptionally cold. Dense fog and smog prevailed in Islamabad, Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The synoptic situation, according to the PMD, is characterized by a shallow westerly wave present over the western parts of Balochistan. This synoptic pattern is contributing to the anticipated weather conditions in the region.
Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather dominated most parts of the country, with very cold conditions in the northern areas. Dense fog and smog persisted over the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Sindh, and Islamabad. Notably, Larkana recorded 01 mm of rain during this period.
The recorded lowest minimum temperatures during this period were as follows: Leh -11°C, Skardu -10°C, Kalam, Gilgit, Gupis, Astore, Srinagar -05°C, Kalam -04°C, and Hunza -03°C. These temperatures reflect the winter chill that has enveloped various parts of the country.
