Real Madrid has officially confirmed that star striker Kylian Mbappe has suffered a left knee sprain, raising concerns about his availability for upcoming La Liga and UEFA Champions League matches.
The announcement came five days after Mbappe missed Real Madrid’s 2-1 Champions League home win over Benfica and just hours before the team’s La Liga clash against Getafe, in which he was also excluded from the squad.
Medical Update
According to the club’s statement:
“Following the tests conducted on our player Kylian Mbappe by French specialist doctors, under the supervision of Real Madrid’s Medical Services, the diagnosis of a sprain in the left knee and the suitability of the conservative treatment being followed are confirmed.”
No specific return date was provided, with the report noting that his recovery is “pending evolution.”
Mbappe’s 2025–26 Season Performance
| Competition | Goals |
| La Liga | 23 |
| UEFA Champions League | 13 |
Mbappe’s injury has been troubling him for approximately three months, with the forward playing through pain in recent matches. His rest comes after a noticeable dip in form, prompting the club to prioritize long-term fitness over short-term appearances.
His availability is now uncertain for Friday’s La Liga trip to Celta Vigo and the Champions League two-legged tie against Manchester City on March 11 and 17.
Real Madrid’s medical and coaching staff will monitor Mbappe’s progress carefully, balancing recovery with competitive demands to ensure the French international can return safely without risking further injury.
