Karachi, July 28, 2025 – In a decisive move to curb profiteering and stabilize market conditions, the Commissioner of Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has officially fixed the sugar prices in the city. A notification issued on July 27, 2025, outlines the new pricing structure aimed at protecting consumers from artificial inflation.
As per the notification, the wholesale price of sugar has been set at Rs170 per kilogram, while the retail price is officially fixed at Rs173 per kilogram across Karachi. The commissioner has directed all retailers, wholesalers, and departmental stores to comply strictly with the revised pricing.
To ensure enforcement, Commissioner Naqvi has warned that any violation of the notified sugar prices will result in legal action. Market inspectors and price control teams have been mobilized across Karachi to monitor compliance and take immediate action against defaulters.
Furthermore, all shopkeepers and vendors have been instructed to clearly display the new sugar prices at their premises to avoid confusion and overcharging. This move follows a sharp rise in sugar prices in recent weeks, which saw rates soar to Rs200 per kilogram due to hoarding and black marketing.
The Commissioner’s office reiterated its commitment to stabilizing essential commodity rates in Karachi and has assured citizens that strict steps are being taken to prevent artificial shortages and price manipulation. Consumers are also encouraged to report any violations to the local authorities to ensure fair trade practices across the city.
