Reynolds Emotional Over McElhenney’s Unseen Deadpool Cameo

Ryan Reynolds recently took to Instagram to share an emotional message about his friend and co-star, Rob McElhenney, whose cameo in the highly anticipated “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie was cut from the final version.

On Friday, August 23, the “Deadpool” actor revealed the behind-the-scenes story, expressing his admiration for McElhenney, who also stars alongside Reynolds in the series “Welcome to Wrexham.”

Reynolds began by praising McElhenney’s performance, calling him a “darling” friend and stating that his cameo was outstanding. Although the scene was eventually removed, Reynolds expressed hope that it might still be included in the digital extras when the movie is released. “Rob very kindly did a cameo in DeadpoolAndWolverine, which will hopefully live on in the digital extras,” Reynolds wrote.

The decision to cut the scene was not easy for Reynolds, who admitted that the process of editing a film often requires difficult choices. “They say you sometimes have to kill your darlings,” Reynolds shared. “And with a heavy heart, I had to kill a darling with this cameo.”

Despite the scene not fitting into the final cut, Reynolds emphasized that McElhenney’s talent and charisma were undeniable.

Reynolds also reflected on how McElhenney’s presence added a unique layer to the film. “Even behind a TVA mask, Rob’s connection to Wrexham added depth that the writer would not have fully understood without him,” Reynolds noted.

He further acknowledged the pressure of making the movie and how having friends like McElhenney by his side made the experience more bearable.

Despite the disappointment of McElhenney flying to London for a cameo that didn’t make the final cut, Reynolds expressed his deep appreciation for his friend’s support. “When I see Rob, my heart rate slows, and my nervous system stops yelling at me. He shows up for people. And he showed up for me,” Reynolds concluded.

This heartfelt tribute highlights the strong bond between the two actors and the challenges faced during the filmmaking process. Fans can only hope that McElhenney’s cameo will be available in the film’s digital release.
